Aug. 1st, 2015 - Assisting Red Cross Fire Preparedness Campaign

Humanists Doing Good will be volunteering to help the Red Cross with their Fire Prevention Campaign in Grand Junction. Volunteers will receive 30 minutes of training from the Red Cross before they will visit a neighborhood to help install smoke detectors for people in need.  Each team of 3 HDG members will also have a trained Red Cross volunteer on their team, for a total of four people per team. Each team will be given a target area of 18-22 houses which on average will take a team 4 hours.

The general area we will be working is near the U.S. Postal Service hub on Patterson/F Road in Grand Junction.

July 26th, 2015 - Crag Crest Hike

We will meet at 8:30 am at Island Lake for a 3.5 mile hike. It will be in the trees and there will be lots of great wildflowers, spectacular views, and a great break from the heat.  The 3.5 mile hike is fairly level, though you can turn around at any time for a shorter hike. People can either go back the way we came, or we will have a car shuttle at the end for those who don't want to hike back. There is also a longer, higher option for those who want to go on the top 6.4 mile route.

Here are the essentials to bring:

• Water of course
• A poncho in case it rains
• Bug repellent (mosquitoes are thick)
• Sunscreen, hat

Optional things to bring:

* Flower ID book
• Binos – they say you can see all the way from Aspen to near Ouray to mountains in Utah
• Camera

* Bring your lunch to eat at the end of the hike if you'd like!

Some people will be meeting at 7:00 am at the True Value on 12th Street to carpool.
