Aug. 30th, 2015 - Biking the Riverfront Trail

Join us as we bike along the Riverfront Trail. Our current plan is to meet at the Western Colorado Botanic Gardens, 641 Struthers Ave, Grand Junction at 8:30 in the morning. It’s an easy to moderate ride – enough for some good exercise but not terribly strenuous. Everyone should be comfortable on their bike, but there is no technical riding. Most people will probably ride mountain or town bikes, but road bikes would work, too. (If you ARE comfortable biking but don’t have a bike, let us know and we might be able to bring an extra town bike.) Helmets, please, and it’s too crowded to try to ride with a dog!

The ride will be along the Riverfront Trail system. The trail is mostly along the Colorado River and we are planning to do about an hour out and an hour back to our starting point. Be sure to bring plenty of water and if you have a spare tube, that’s always a good idea. We recommend bringing a lunch to eat at the Botanical Garden after the ride.

When: Sunday, Aug. 30th at 8:30 am

Where: Western Colorado Botanic Gardens (641 Struthers Ave.)

Aug. 29th, 2015 - Harvesting Apples for Community Food Bank

Humanists Doing Good will be teaming up with Grow Another Row to harvest apples straight from the trees. The apples will then be donated to a community food bank(s). Volunteers will also be able to bring some apples home for personal use. The picking will be done at ground level and does not require ladders.

Restrooms are not available at the location. Please bring your own water and consider things like sun hats. You will need to bring your own boxes for any apples you wish to bring home and any extra boxes that you can donate toward the cause are appreciated. If you can bring a canvas bag to place apples in while picking, that can be helpful too. Please arrive on time so that we can all proceed to the orchard as a group.

When: Saturday, August 29th from 8:00 am - 10:00 am

Where: East Orchard Mesa - The location will be in east Orchard Mesa and directions and final information will be sent to those who RSVP.

Aug. 20th, 2015 - HDG Booth at GJ Farmers Market

Humanists Doing Good will be setting up our final booth of the season at the Grand Junction Farmers Market on Main Street. Volunteers help with setting up our booth, staffing our table and taking down our booth at the end of the evening. We are happy to partner new volunteers with experienced volunteers and no previous experience is required. We hope to once again have our mascot out mixing with the crowd and surprising people with small gifts. Help us reach out to our community and inform people about all the great things we do. It's a fun way to meet new and interesting people.

We typically have a 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm shift and a 6:30 pm - 8:45 pm shift. We can often be flexible with volunteer shifts too if these times do not happen to work for you, but you are interested in participating. Please let us know if you have a preference.

When: 4:00 - 8:45 pm (Shifts available and market is officially open from 5:30 - 8:30 pm)

Where: Main Street, GJ
